Animal Care Partner and Feeder

Job Summary

 Paws for Reflection Ranch is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Feeder/Animal Care Partner to join our team. This role is critical to ensuring the daily health, safety, and well-being of our therapy herd and resident animals.


As an Independent Partner, you will work closely with our Director of Equine Programs to maintain our animal facility and provide top-tier care for our animals.

Key Responsibilities

  

Animal Feeding & Care:

  • Feed and fill water for horses, goats, pigs, and barn cats during scheduled shifts.
  • Clean and feed animals in the Critter Cabin, and feed Sheldon (our resident tortoise) on scheduled weekends or upon request.
  • Safely handle horses in a variety of settings and weather conditions according to Ranch handling standards.
  • Stall horses and turn them out for feeding or during inclement weather.
  • Blanket and un-blanket horses during the winter months.
  • Provide simple first aid to horses as directed, and communicate promptly regarding herd health, injuries, or supply needs.

Facility Maintenance:

  • Maintain stalls in the barn and arena daily (picking out stalls and re-bedding with shavings as needed).
  • Maintain overall cleanliness in the barn, feed room, and arena.
  • Clean water troughs; place and remove water deicers during the winter.
  • Complete special projects as assigned by leadership.

Required Qualifications

  •  Experience:  General experience handling animals is required. Prior experience safely handling horses in various weather conditions is highly preferred. 
  • Skills: Strong critical thinking, excellent communication (verbal and written), organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. 
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, navigate ranch terrain, and preform animal-related tasks.
